Welcome to this Sunday’s Third Degree: Tough, Brief, Weekly Interrogations on matters public and private that force thinking and response. Today we target: Puzzlements
- When the incomparable, King and I, Yul Brynner confronted puzzlements in dramatic, soliloquy-like song, did he confront present day public perplexity? YouTube review anyone?
- When the king is dissociative, seems to doubt self, are there problems ahead for the kingdom?
- When the people doubt the King, have the problems arrived?
- When majority media extol the grandeur of the Emperor and cloak his every action in new linguistic raiment, do we see the naked truth?
- If standards and application of justice seem selective, languorous and absent for the King and court yet targeted, speedy and to the point of persecution for opponents, what confidence, excepting those with self interest, will citizens of the kingdom exhibit?
- If foreign adversaries are emboldened and act with impunity instead of restraint and caution, what is the puzzlement as to why?
- If the king contends that enemies within are the principal threat and generates division, what recourse exists?
- If the economic well being of the kingdom is battered by debt, over regulation, inflation, crime, weaponization of unprovable weather/climate predictions, and avoidable energy dependence, does the charter of the kingdom allow alternative?
- Is it a puzzlement that many (is it most) citizens of the kingdom, dulled by indulgence and enjoyment of benefits earned by previous generations, live for the moment? Does hedonism reign supreme?
- Was Thoreau dealing with the doom of puzzlements when he opined that: “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation and what is confirmed desperation is merely resignation”?
- What elements of national renewal offer rescue or are we blindly resigned to past historical realities of decline, etcetera, etcetera and so forth?
Socrates reminds: “The unexamined life is not worth living”. The answers and actions are yours?
