Welcome to this Sunday’s Third Degree: Tough, Brief, Weekly Interrogations on matters public and private that force thinking and response. Today we target: Sheep
- As a consenting adult, should you be sheepish about agreeing to conjugate in public and would you likely choose to decline?
- Is there any scatological or prurient content in that statement other than sheepish imagination?
- Do we sheep-like flock to aberrational language and abide use that bleats a leak or lack of intelligence?
- So, if verbs conjugate and nouns decline and half the languages in the world employ gender using male, female and neuter forms (thank you latin lovers among others), why would we grossly sheep dip language in response to sexual or identity proclivities proclaimed by a tiny minority of population?
- If pronoun use is considered, then should we adhere to the long established rigors of first to third person singular and plural?
- That said, with tolerance in mind, should we allow for modest modification when there is sexual or identity confusion, real or imagined, or seized upon (by mediocre male athletes or deranged shooters)?
- If “I, you, he, she and it “ represent the singular with the third person denoting male, female and neuter yet sexual and identity factors cause individual concern, shouldn’t we merely add the duality of female and male representation to the neuter using a “sh” or “hs’ as a prefix or suffix depending on ease of pronunciation? Problem solved?
- In the plural, do “we, you and they” seem properly encompassing and accommodating of almost any group, delight or perversion?
- In these and other, even more damaging instances, does intelligence leak or lack lead to language manipulation that threatens the norms of usage, meaning, morality, and national cohesion?
- When criminals are victims, and weather existential, when failing school systems fight school choice, when the law, and hence justice, is variable to politics and position, when common defense is uncommon but politically correct (make climate change and destructive DEI the prime focus versus ‘enemies foreign and domestic’), when general welfare promotion equates to inflation and political power at any ruinous cost, when domestic tranquility is synonymous “with mostly” peaceful riots, burning cities, and e pluribus unum means “tribalism matters most” and “reverse racism” rules, where is, and who displays, the leak and lack of linguistic intelligence?
- Do we, have we, become a nation of sheep waiting, longing, to be shorn?
- Socrates reminds: “The unexamined life is not worth living.” The answers and actions are yours.
