Welcome to this Sunday’s Third Degree: Tough, Brief, Weekly Interrogations on matters public and private that force thinking and response. Today we target: Dance Floors
- Is the daze and fatigue of marathon dancers after days on the dance floor mirrored by the attention span of the greater American public?
- Is it a “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They” kind of movie experience?
- How and why do producers and promoters and the dance floor owners or the appointed/elected take advantage of us dancers?
- Do they fill the floor by promises of payment and gimmicky details with exploitation the objective?
- Do they enlist star power, political force and paid for, so called, peerless, peer reviewers and settled science to urge on movement?
- Is their real desired outcome to get us all on their dance floors whirling around, almost insensate, save pounding policy beats with catchy names or claims designed to deceive?
- What about us? How do we combat the herd instinct to be part of the action, to just be out there and boogie the night and day and our freedoms away?
- Are the susceptible young (25 and under) and the unredeemed, kumbaya crowd key and pliable targets?
- What incentives impel escape when hedonism or ‘true believerism’ reign supreme?
- How about something more satisfying to body and soul, a yearning for relief, a pause, some earned rest?
- Does Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne advice ring true: “Rest is a weapon”?
- To get that rest, are positioning and perspective required?
- Does it take a climbing up?
- When the Talmud observes that a human being can either climb up or climb down, is that a metaphor or a mandate?
- Do dance floor evaluations benefit from a balcony view?
- Is that a place, a vantage point, where the daze can be replaced by clarity of view and thought?
- Will the daze disappear by chance or design and what about effort?
- Does it take a rising up and looking all around us, the endless seeking of clear days and seeing across forever?
